PERSONALIZED CARE

Prenatal Care

  • Prenatal care is often the first introduction to the midwifery model of care.

  • One of your first encounters with the center will be a full tour and orientation, so you are well-versed in what we offer and what to expect.

  • Your initial prenatal appointment with our midwives will provide you with a safe space to discuss your hopes and goals for pregnancy and birth. We will go over your health information and history with you to make sure we are a good fit. Our midwives will provide you with the individual education you need to make informed decisions.

  • Your subsequent appointments will consist of checking in on baby (listening to heart rate and measuring growth through fundal checks) and your comfort level. We will review your hopes and goals and answer any questions you may have, while ensuring you remain a candidate for NPBC.

Birth

  • Our midwives and birth attendants will be with you every step of the way, offering you support and reassurance while you follow your body's ques. We will help you find which tools work best for you throughout your labor journey. We can explore the following tools together:

    • Tubs for hydrotherapy and/or waterbirth

    • Birth swings, Swedish barres and birthing balls to help with comfort and positioning

    • Nitrous oxide and TENS units to help with pain relief

  • We encourage movement, nourishment and family involvement, all while monitoring the baby with a handheld doppler

  • Doulas are welcomed and encouraged

Postpartum/Newborn Care

  • We focus on uninterrupted bonding time and do not separate baby unless it is emergent. We will check on baby while still on your chest and do the first full assessment within your reach. We encourage families to eat, rest and nap together. Most birthing parents and newborns will be stable enough to leave the birth center 4-6 hours after birth.

  • We will see you and baby together for your first several postpartum appointments, ending with an appointment for just you at 6 weeks (but baby is welcome to come along!).

THE EXPERIENCE

NorthPointe Birth Center has a small staff of versatile individuals who you will meet at multiple points throughout your care, giving you a sense of community and continuity. We believe in fostering relationships and providing evidence-based care throughout every encounter, from prenatal care to birth to post-partum care to well body visits.
